Sudden Infant Death Syndrome Charity

As a result of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) charities and organizations, the number of SIDS deaths is at an all-time low. The Butterflies and Birdies Foundation is one example of a sudden infant death syndrome charity that is making a difference for families that have been affected by the loss of an infant due to SIDS. As part of our efforts, we donate Owlet Smart Socks to new parents, as well as provide resources to parents who have lost a child.

How Common is SIDS?

Even though SIDS cases are at an all-time low, there are still roughly 2,500 sleep-related infant deaths every year. Our sudden infant death syndrome charity provides information and education to bring this number even lower. Our SIDS charity believes that with more education and awareness, we can save additional lives and prevent heartache for many more families.

Here are some of the things that our sudden infant death syndrome foundation shares with new parents:

  • Put baby to sleep on their back. Make sure everyone else – sitters, daycare providers, grandparents – do the same.
  • Keep the crib as bare as possible. No blankets, pillows or stuffed animals.
  • Don’t overheat the baby. Use a sleep sack or sleep clothing on cold nights instead.
  • Have baby sleep in your room for at least six months. They should have their own bed, however. No co-sleeping, as adult beds aren’t made for babies.
  • Breastfeed. Babies who are breastfed have a lower risk for SIDS. If possible, breastfeed for at least six months.
  • Don’t smoke. Babies who are around smoke have higher rates of SIDS. Avoid smoking around baby.

How Our SIDS Charity is Making a Difference

There are a number of things that our sudden infant death syndrome foundation is doing to make a difference. We believe that education and awareness are critical factors in preventing unnecessary SIDS death. While we cannot prevent every one, we can remind parents of simple things they can do to protect their babies. We also raise money and donate CuddleCots to hospitals for stillborns.
